Shrewsbury & Atcham Area Committee
Introduction
The Committee comprises of delegates from Shrewsbury Town Council and its neighbouring parish councils which include:
Astley; Atcham; Alberbury with Cardeston; Acton Burnell, Frodsley, Pitchford,Ruckley & Langley; All Stretton,Semethcott & Woolstaston; Bayston Hill; Berrington; Bicton; Bomere Heath & District; Buildwas; Cardington; Church Preen, Hughley and Kenley; Condover; Cound; Cressage, Harley and Sheinton; Ford; Great Hanwood; Great Ness & Little Ness; Leebotwood & Longnor; Longden; Minsterley; Montford; Uffington; Upton Magna and Withington.
(Pontesbury and Leaton & Eaton Constantine PCs do not currently wish to belong to the Committee.)
The Committee is potentially an influencial voice due to our geographical size and population which we represent. Shrewsbury Town Council alone is the second largest in England.

DATES FOR YOUR DIARY
Our 2011 Meeting Dates are all to be held in the Council Chamber at the Guildhall; Shrewsbury and are as follows: ( Parking permits can be ontained from Helen Ball on the evening.) The meeting is limited to 2hrs.
Tues 8th February 2011 at 7.00 p.m. To include Training on Using the Public Planning System by Shrophire Council Planning Manager Stuart Thomas.
Tues 10th May 2011 at 7.00 p.m.
Tues 13th September at 7.00 p.m.
Tues 6th December at 7.00 p.m.
As a result of feedback by parishes our meetings this year are to include free training sessions in specific areas requested by delegates. These will include:
Custodian trusteeship; what it means to the Parish Council;
Preparing for year end and the external auditor;
Quality Status an inside view from a council who have achieved the status.
Our November 2010 meeting included training provided by the Town Clerk Helen Ball and Secretary Sue Hackett on "Health & Saftey" and Risk assessment ". This was particularly aimed at small/medium sized parish councils. If you missed this and would like to view the presentations given please email for details.
It was also decided by the Committee NOT to charge an annual subscription in 2011-12 as the smaller parishes were facing increased ALC subscription fees and due to low running costs, no overheads and a healthy Bank balance fees could be waived for the year.
As a result all Shrewsbury & Atcham parish councils are invited to the 2011-12 meetings whether they are members of ALC or not..........why not attend and find out more! The Committee believes that these informal meetings enables smaller parish councils and the town council to confer on matters which affect all and that the meeting acts as a forum for an exchange of views and ultimately a stronger voice when engaging with authorities such as Shropshire Council; The Highways Agency; Police and Health Authorities etc concerning common issues.
The Committee's aim is to add value and therefore does not wish to replicate the Local Joint Committee meetings arranged by Shropshire Council's but meet the needs of its Parishes & Town Councils.
