Parish Newletter [March '10] (634.94KB)
Roller Disco 11/6/10 and Youth Club News.
62 young people rolled into Dorrington Village Hall for the 2nd Roller Disco (48 rolled at the previous one) which was raising funds for Condover Parish Youth Club. They were aged from 3 to 14 years old and skates and scooters had a brilliant time together. I think it might be a nice idea for the littler ones to have a scooters only session (anyone who might be interested in arranging one ring Rachel Johnson.)
Condover Parish Youth Club and it's sister club that starts meeting in Dorrington on July 2nd have now raised enough money (about £150 at each Roller Disco) to book an iceskating trip in the Summer holidays. The best thing about the Roller Disco's has been that it has fired up all the young people to skate and skating has become really popular now in the Parish.
The Condover Parish Youth Club at Condover Village Hall has met every Tuesday since January 26th and on Tuesday 15th June the volunteers will open the doors to the 20th session. About 15 young people regularly attend and enjoy the activities. The new sister club at Dorrington Village Hall opens for its first monthly session on Fiday July 2nd so if you're aged 11 or over please come along between 6.30 and 8.30pm to try it out. As ever we want to encourage young people from across
the Parish to join us. The first session hasn't been finalised yet but there will be tuck shop, table tennis, a craft activity and more!
Condover Parish Council are supporting the clubs by paying for insurance and have now offered some money towards the cost of a minibus to transport young people to Ryton Eleven Recreation Ground for a fun outdoors session. The young people and volunteers are really grateful - thank you. Helena Smith from Shropshire Youth Association has been invaluable to us and her experience has allowed us to deal with problems as they arise as well as her offering the young people loads of different
activities to try. Again we're all really grateful. The Burnell and Severn Valley Local Joint Committee have supported Condover Parish Youth Club with grants that cover the first years running costs at both venues. Yet again really, really grateful.
The volunteers have worked incredibly hard to make all this happen and because of this effort young lives have been improved. A special mention for Feraid Khalailah who travels to the Youth Club every week from Shrewsbury and is now considering a career in Youth Work because he finds the Club so worthwhile. He is waiting to start Shropshire Youth Association courses towards this goal.
