COMMUNITY SPIRIT
The Hinstock Hurtle was the latest in a line of events that Hinstock has seen this year. We've had The Big Lunch, The Beer Festival and The Fun Day. All events were well attended, albeit the Beer Festival was held on the same week-end as the V Festival at Weston Park.
The number of people who turned up to these events is proof positive that there is a strong community spirit alive and well in Hinstock. And our thanks must go to everyone who organised these events - and to Paul and his team of helpers in The Falcon who have provided excellent hospitality for everything.
Hinstock is a lucky village. It has a church, a chapel, a thriving school, a shop / Post Office and a pub. You can play tennis, snooker and 5 a side football. There's a playing field. There's the Memorial Hall which is hired out for events. So please do use them all !
THANKS !
Our thanks go once again to Hinstock Village Initiative who did another litter pick on Sunday, 20th September. They do a great job in keeping our village looking good. Of course, we could all help by either taking our litter home or depositing it in an appropriate receptacle.
If you would like to help in any way with Village Initiative, please contact Eric Balchin on 01952 550720.

ICH BIN EINE BERLINER !!
Hinstock's own Marathon runner, Jo Coombes, took part in The Berlin Marathon on Sunday, 20th September. She said it was perhaps the most gruelling Marathon she has taken part in. The temperature was 28C, the skies were pure blue and there wasn't a puff of wind anywhere.
Jo was very impressed with the organisation of the Marathon as she was with Berlin itself. Very clean with lovely buildings. The runners went through Checkpoint Charlie into what was East Germany. Jo said she could tell straight away she was there as it was just row after row of houses and shops.
To help runners combat the heat, the organisers had laid on the local Fire Brigade to be at 2km intervals along the route, spraying the runners. 44,000 runners took part in this Marathon and Jo finished in a very creditable 2889th. place in a time of 4 hours 7 minutes. Not her best time (3 hours 59 minutes ) but given the heat, it was a magnificent effort. Jo received a medal on completing the course.
Congratulations, Jo, we're all very proud of you !
LITTER
Litter is an unnecessary eyesore. There is absolutely no excuse for throwing litter - there are litter bins provided for the purpose of disposing of litter.
One area that surprises me - if I can still be surprised by anything at my age - is the entrance to the Memorial Hall. I'm regularly picking up crisp packets, cigarette ends, plastic milk bottles, chocolate wrappers and other bits of litter that have been thrown there. And where do I take them ? To the litter bin that is a matter of THREE YARDS away from the Hall entrance. So come on - play the game and dispose of litter responsibly.
HINSTOCK PARISH COUNCIL
You will have read in previous reports of Parish Council meetings that a Cycle Ramp area would be built for the use of our local children. Well, it's now been completed - and is being very much used !
As Editor of this magazine, people tend to ask me questions, thinking I might know the answer. One such question was " who's responsible for maintaining the path that runs from Bearcroft to Chester Road, behind Roman Way, as it's very over-grown. ? " I contacted Sarah North, Chairman, Hinstock Parish Council, and within a day or so, the path had been cleared.
So it's thanks again to our Parish Council !
RETURN JOURNEY
Many readers will remember Craig Aspinall, the co-founder of this magazine. He did a runner a few years ago under the pretence of having found a very lucrative job in America. Whilst he was there, he married Sandra and they now have two children.
Craig visited us a couple of years ago - and repeated the visit at the end of August. He brought his wife and their two children, Murphy and Ryan. Sandra hasn't changed at all. Craig's put a tiny bit of weight on - but that Yorkshire accent's still there, although Sandra says he has to pronounce soccer "saccer" over there otherwise no-one knows what he means !
It was a great pleasure to see them all. Craig's promised to write some more articles for the magazine, so keep watching out for them !
