Live Theatre by Satellite

We are excited to announce that Aston on Clun is at the forefront of an exciting new initiative to bring prestige theatre productions, captured live to rural communities. These will be live performances broadcast in high definition via satellite.

This will be the first time that such performances, initially from the National Theatre, have been made available to a Village Hall such as ours.

Arts Alive (who have been active in the area for many years, and sponsor Flicks in the Sticks) has enabled us to show this short season of National Theatre plays. Our aims are to improve access to performance arts for a much wider audience in rural areas, and to encourage people who would otherwise have found it difficult to attend these sorts of shows.

The first pilot season will be:

Thursday 9th February - Travelling Light

Nicholas Wright's funny and fascinating tribute to the Eastern European immigrant pioneers of Hollywood's golden age, stars Anthony Sher.

Thursday 1st March - Comedy of Errors

Following his success in Othello, Lenny Henry returns to Shakespeare in this farcical comedy about mistaken identity, staged in a contemporary world.

Thursday 29th March - She Stoops to Conquer

Oliver Goldsmiths much-loved, 18th century comedy of manners, courtship and class, stars Coronation Street's Katherine Kelly.

Thursday 14th June - Frankenstein

Mary Shelley's Frankenstein is adapted for the stage by Nick Dear and directed by Danny Boyle in his return to the theatre after winning the Academy Award for Slumdog Millionaire. This is a recording of a perfomance first shown in 2011. Note: Rated 15 - Contains one scene of sexual violence.
