Pentre Flood Aleviation Pressure Group
The Pentre Flood Alleviation Pressure Group
After the near flooding of 2002, a group of people in the village decided that more could, and should, be done to prevent flooding in Pentre; and so the Pentre Flood Alleviation Pressure Group was formed from members of the local community who expressed an interest. Since that day the group has:
- attended numerous meetings in the West Midlands
- supported flood fairs in the county
- arranged a trip to Clywedog Dam
- moved the EA on to do pre-feasibility study for the area
- enlisted the help of local MPs
- become affiliated members of National Flood Forum
- put pressure on EA to maintain argae
- worked closely with EA
- enlisted the support of the media
- joined a nationwide campaign for better funding for flooding
-
above all else, raised the profile of Pentre and enabled us to be invloved in important nationwide studies
The group was formed, not to make decisions but to put pressure on the EA, local & national government and insurance companies to alleviate the miseries of flooding and to safeguard the value of our properties.
We do not meet on a regular basis; when something relevant arises it is only then that a meeting is arranged. The EA only meet with the group very occasionally. The EA has been a tremendous source of support and encouragement.; we have built an excellent working relationship with them.
