Keep Warm this Winter - Warm Home Discount information ( 4-11-2011)
Confusion has arisen over the Governments' new Warm Homes Discount. Customers have been calling the energy companies trying to find out who is eligible and therefore will qualify for £120 off their electricity bill this winter. Most of the money will be distributed automatically but for some eligible customers the discount will only be available 'first come, first served'.
Pensioners in receipt of the guarantee element of Pension Credit should receive their discount automatically without having to take any action. They will receive a letter from the Department of Work and Pensions to say that their electricity bill will be credited with £120.
Some other households may also qualify, but the funds are limited. These customers do need to apply to their energy company. Each company has slightly different criteria for deciding who can have a payment. In broad terms they are looking for customers who receive a means-tested benefit and have a child under 5 or who also receive a disability benefit.
Ian Peters, managing director of energy at British Gas, told Radio 4's Money Box programme that no eligible customer would lose out if they apply before the end of January. Other companies are, currently, not making such a generous offer.
Shropshire residents unsure who to call should contact Keep Shropshire Warm on 01743 277123 for further information on this and the government grants available for loft and wall cavity insulation.SC Site Allocation Development Policy Consultation
The Parish Council has recently been asked to confirm their responses to Shropshire Council (SC) SAMDev Consultation in light of th new Community Infrastructure Levey policy and creation of the Church Streeton Place Plans. The Parish Council decided that the response made in June 2010 was still relevant opting for the two parishes to be considered as countryside under the new SC LDF Policy. This response is oitlined in the document below and is supported by a community consultation event held last year at the Annual parish Council Meeting:
The Church Stretton Place Plan has also been updated to reflect that the parishes are currently updating their parish plans. Meetings are shortly to be announced where this will be launched. Clerk 3/10/2011

Your Parish Council's Response to Shropshire Council LDF Draft Planning Policies:
Draft Charging Schedule for Community Infrastructure Levy:
a. What is the justification for the huge disparity between the proposed levy of £40 per sq m in urban areas and £120 per sq m in rural areas.
b. What guarantee is there that income derived from this levy from rural development will be allocated to the infra structure needs of that specific parish. To ensure this transparency exists within SC it is recommended that such income is transferred to the specific parish council's accounts and treated as a restricted fund. (Response submitted to SC 20/2/11)
Reduce waste and recycle more.... Would you like to get involved contribute to saving the planet and join the network?
Shropshire Community Recycling Network wants to talk to groups that are already active in the community to help them involve recycling in the work they already undertake. They are offering grants, advice and other support. For example several groups across Shropshire work to help people on low incomes get hold of decent furniture at low cost. By accepting donations of furniture, they are able to reduce the amount of waste thrown away in the county while supporting individuals and families.
Ben Proctor provides support to local communities who would like to join. He explained "Shropshire is really lucky to have so many people working to improve their local communities. There are many areas where community groups might be able to save money or improve their services by thinking about reducing waste or using recycled materials. Or it might be that with just a little help they could reduce the amount of waste they or their community sends to landfill. The recycling network is already there to support groups who are focused on recycling, my role is to help those who would like to take more action on waste issues".To find out more visit www.scrl.org.uk call Ben on 07904 123498 or e-mail ben@benproctor.co.uk.
