St Chad's Montford ........................ St Mary's
The Parish of Montford does have two churches St Chad's Montford. St Mary's the Virgin Shrawardine these are ecclesiastical parish's. The civil parish of Montford held their first meeting on the 4th of December 1894 under the local government act of that period. St Marys was involved with the civil war during 1645, with the building being damaged by canon fire. It was also involved with the daring escape of Col William Vaughan, who was the C.O of Shrawardine Castle in 1645. Vaughan was called THE DEVIL OF SHRAWARDINE and was General of horse for the king. St Chads is the resting place of Charles Darwin's family.
