Standing Conference - Health and Wellbeing Stakeholder Alliance
Shropshire Partnership invited representatives from a number of organisations to the Standing Conference event Healthy Lives, Healthy People on Thursday 1st December 2011, at 2pm, Lord Hill Hotel, Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury.
Over 150 people were invited to the event, drawn from a range of organisations including patient and service user groups, commissioners, service providers and advocacy groups from across the public, private and voluntary sectors. Members of the Shadow Health and Wellbeing Board were also on hand to answer questions and listen to the views and comments of participants.
The panel consisted of members and officers of the Shadow Health and Wellbeing Board and speakers for the day:

Val Beint, Director for Health and Care
Professor Rod Thomson, Director of Public Health
Paul Tulley, Shropshire County Clinical Commissioning Group
Janet Graham, Group Manager for Care and Wellbeing
Dr Kevin Lewis, Director of Preventative Health Programmes
Martin Key, Environmental Protection Manager
The event was the start of what will be an ongoing engagement and involvement to determine the health priorities for Shropshire.
Information from this and subsequent events will contribute to the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment. This is the evidence base for understanding health needs, and helping service providers to plan for the future. The Joint Strategic Needs Assessment will drive the Health and Wellbeing Strategy which will determine how resources for health care and illness prevention are directed.
The focus for this event was to provide information on the process for determining Health and Wellbeing priorities and developing a structured way for continued engagement and involvement through a Health and Wellbeing Alliance.
The event was an opportunity for attendees to shape the structure and communication channels for the stakeholder alliance.
The event was supported by Shropshire Partnership which is the collective name for a large number of partners involved in delivering public services, and is sometimes referred to as the Local Strategic Partnership.
