Community Concerns

Tractors

West Felton Parish is a rural area and tractors are part of the everyday way of life. Tractors are work tools with many functions both in and off the farms in the area. However, when they are on the public highway tractors are subject to the rules imposed on all citizens when using the roads including the use of mobile phones whilst driving.

The Parish Council has received reports of drivers of tractors using mobile phones whilst driving on the local roads and incidents are becoming more frequent.  As a result this concern has been reported to the local police.

As a member of the public if you see a tractor driver using a mobile phone please make a note of the registration number of the tractor, the time of the use and the location including direction of travel. This should then be reported to the local police.

The following methods of contact may be useful, however if the matter is an emergency you should always dial 999.

Dog Fouling

Dog owners have a legal obligation to ensure that they clean up and remove any mess made by their pet in public places. Failure to do so is not only anti-social behaviour but is also illegal and the person concerned (unless registered as a blind dog owner) may be issued with a £50 on-the-spot fine, if they refuse to pay the fine the court can impose a fine of up to £1000.

There are serious health issues that can be caused to humans and in particular young people and children as uncleared mess can contain Toxocara Canis causing asthma and in some cases blindness.

If you take your dog into public places, including recreation grounds, parks, playgrounds, pavements, verges, footpaths, gutters and carriageways, then always take a poop scoop or plastic bag so that you may dispose of the mess in the appropriate litter or rubbish bin.
