Editorial

Having spent my usual lengthy amount of time preparing yet another edition of Village People for your delectation, I was very surprised ( not to say furious ) to find this morning that my Publisher program would open NOTHING. All the work I'd put into this month's magazine, to say nothing of previous issues, has been lost. So this issue is very much a rushed job as I have had to start from scratch.. My apologies go to everyone who has been good enough to send me things for inclusion. I've included as much as I can but the time frame is very tight. Plus, I've had to re-type most of the adverts which is very time-consuming but necessary as they're what pay our way !

But  - things will go on. Next month's issue will be a bumper Christmas one !

So  -  thank you for your forbearance. There are certain things missing from this month's edition, I realise that, but we need to have it printed and out before November's finished !!!

I keep saying to my chums that being an editor's not easy. Well, now you know. Normally it's people having a go at me. Now my PC has joined in !

Life goes on and there seems to be more and more to moan about. One of the things that really upsets me is the way this government treats us all as children. They call it a Nanny State  - perhaps

Big Brother might be better. I read about a case this week where an experienced 62 year old teacher had removed a boy from his class because he was being abusive. The teacher was taken to court and found guilty of assault. Result ? His career's over. When I was at school, teachers regularly physically chastised us. One had a plastic metre rule which he used to beat us over the head with if we didn't know a formula. Our Latin teacher was a very accurate shot with a piece of chalk - hitting us fairly between the eyes if we forgot a declension. PT teachers had the advantage. They had cricket bats, pad-a-bats and various other sundry items to punish us with. And the discipline did us good ! What's that old saying  -  Spare the rod and spoil the child. I keep on saying it  - I'm just glad I'm as old as I am and going the way I am. Sorry, I'd hate to grow up in this present pampered climate.
