Background/Evidence

Over half of the Respondents felt that provision of tourist accommodation was a type of business that should be encouraged and about 45% felt that tourist activities should also be. However about 10% and 20% respectively disagreed with this and there were many comments specifically against tourism or calling for it at least to be restricted. (Questionnaire did not distinguish between tourism and day visitors and adverse comments may have referred largely to the latter). Reasons for opposition to increased tourism included increased traffic, effects on peace and quiet, effects of lack of country knowledge and the benefits to local people being considered small. It was felt important that tourist activities should be of "countryside friendly" type.

Objective

To encourage the provision of tourist accommodation and activities that are of benefit to the Parish economy whilst ensuring that they do not conflict with the essential character of the Parish environment.
