The Parish Council meets at least four times a year at the Village Hall at dates and times (usually Monday at 7.30) advertised in the press and the usual channels. The Parish Council is elected every four years. The chairman is picked by the councillors from one of their members. This year 2008, the election took place on May 19th. David Holyhead was elected chairman, Peter Williams vice chairman, Eileen Reynolds the PC clerk and RFO. (Responsible Finance Officer ), Cllr Peter Gill and Cllr Jon Hodgkins were elected as Village Hall representatives for the Parish Council.

Parishioners are welcome to attend the meetings chaired by the present chairman Mr David Hollyhead. The Parish Council prints and distributes a quarterly Parish Newsletter to keep parishioners informed of current events. Anyone wishing to become a Parish Councillor should contact the Parish Clerk who will add their possible co-option on the agenda for the next meeting.

Parish Councils are the smallest areas of civil administration in England and the tier closest to the people. They are an essential part of local democracy and act on behalf of the community they represent.

The role of the Parish Council is to give views and opinions on planning matters or other proposals that may affect the community and introduce schemes or projects that will benefit the parish. They also work in partnership with other bodies to achieve those aims and generally support and improve the parish environment and services.

To become a Parish Councillor the person must be over 21.You cannot be bankrupt or have a criminal record.A councillor can be voted in at the election which takes place every four years. If not enough candidates come forward at the election the balance of available places can be co-opted onto the council. Similarly any mid term vacancies or resignations can be filled by co-opting any willing parishioner who fulfils the requirements.

We bring any problems and work that needs to be done within the Parish to the attention of the relevant bodies or council. Organise projects and improvements that will benefit the parish on behalf of the Eardington Parishioners. Consider any planning applications or proposals that may affect residents of the parish. The Parish Council meets regularly to discuss and resolve any problems or worries and where parishioners can attend to air any problems.
