The Pontesbury P3 group is a volunteer body who works in partnership with the SCC to maintain and renovate the public footpath and bridleway network in the parish.

Since forming in May 2006 a working party has gone out each Tuesday morning, weather permitting.  In April 2007 the group celebrated its 100th project by erecting a footbridge over the Habberley Brook on the Marches Way - south of Habberley.

The public rights of way in the parish extend to over 42 miles so the group still has lots of work to do!

The parish extends from the lush farmland of the Rea Valley in the west and north to the Shropshire Hills AONB in the south. (www.shropshirehillsaonb.co.uk)

Earls Hill rises to 320 metres and is a fantastic viewpoint with a 360 degree panorama stretching from the Shropshire Plain to the north, the Stretton Hills and the Stiperstones to the east and south round to the mountains of mid Wales, including the Berwyns and Cadair Idris, in the west.  The Nature Reserve, managed by Shropshire Wildlife Trust, includes the summit and the deep valley (Happy Valley) and twists below the eastern flank of the hill. The walks we have published vary from routes along the Rea Brook, where you may see kingfishers or hares, to the wooded slopes of Happy Valley, home for dippers and many other species of birds and animals.

The authoress Mary Webb lived in Pontesbury in the early part of the 20th century and two of our walks take you past her former homes.

During the summer months the Shropshire Shuttle bus runs through the village each Saturday and Sunday plus Bank Holidays.  Our linear walk from Pulverbatch to Pontesbury uses this service.  Go to the Shuttle website for timetable details. (www.shropshirehillsshuttles.co.uk)

We hope that you come to Pontesbury and enjoy some of our varied and beautiful countryside.
